•  In March, Augustus Owsley Stanley III produces his first commercial batch of LSD in Northern California.  Large quantities of acid available for the first time (Mar 3)  One year later, manufacture and possession of the drug are declared illegal. Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters hold several acid tests in and around San Francisco

•  Timothy Leary, et al, publish "The Psychedelic Reader."

•  Byrds release single of Dylan-song "Mr. Tambourine" Man (Feb)

•  Police raid Owsley's house in Berkeley (Feb)

•  Drop City commune founded (May 3)
