America was founded on the principle that government serves the people (and not the other way around). If government leaders no longer serve the public interest, they need to be replaced by ones that do.
Hippies learned from the civil rights movement about the importance of empowering people. As a result, more people today recognize the need for greater citizen involvement in politics. With the way things are going, we all need to "Do It Now!"
We all need to vote (especially in 2004). Unfortunately, there is no current trend that gives third parties much of a chance. At this point, the Democratic Party is obviously far from perfect, but it truly represents the "lesser of two evils" in this instance. Our immediate objective must be to drive out the Republican fundamentalists and prevent the situation from getting worse.
The first step is for all of us to become politically active within our own regions. Write to your local politicians and let them know what the citizens believe.You may even want to take the chance and run for elected office in your community.
